Dhall
The City of Dhall: built long ago at the confluence of two great rivers, Dhall is the old capital of the Rat lands, and the historical seat of the Rat Kings. At its height Dhall was the largest and most prosperous of the great northern cities, with a population over a million strong.
However, the city never truly regained its status following the War of the Green Flame, for in time the two great rivers ran dry. Nowadays the city is forced to draw its water from a vast aquifer, which some fear is being slowly poisoned by seepage from Lake Vaelia.
Kolba
Kolbas are the hoods that Mice wear. They are among their most prized possessions, and they are sources of great pride, as they represent their profession and social status. Mice of repute are never seen without their Kolba, except for their spouse. One notable exception, however, is the Quarry Mice of Hume, who threw off their hoods while protesting harsh working conditions in the town.
Mice
They live in Mice Kingdom Muridea, to the east from giant Lake Vaelia.
During the War of the Green Flame, the Mice Kingdom sent an emissary to the Green Flame to try and convince it to spare them in exchange for revealing the weaknesses of other kingdoms. The others saw this as a betrayal, and the Green Flame destroyed most of their kingdom regardless.
After the Rats almost single-handedly won the war, the remainder of their lands were annexed, and Mice were no longer allowed to bear arms. They also lost their place on the Council of Asper.
Muridea
Muridea was once the kingdom of the Mice, before they tried to betray the other creatures to the Green Flame during the war. Most of the kingdom was annexed by the Rats of the Red Paw after the war. It is the origin of the Muridean language.
Ouma
Mice share responsibility for raising their young with other members of their village. 'Ouma' literally means 'Second Mother' in the Mousefolk's tongue.
Pesa
Pesa is a location in Ghost of a Tale. It was a city in Muridea before the War of the Green Flame, after which it was annexed into the lands of the Rats of the Red Paw.
All Mice, upon reaching adolescence, must travel there on the Pesa Road to register their name and vocation with the authorities of the region. When the journey is complete, and they return to their homes, they are allowed to don the hood or hat of their profession.
Rats
They are large rodents whose empire has dominance over most of the world. They rose to prominence after defeating the Green Flame and now have immense political power.
Ringtail
A disease that causes a series of painful constrictions along the length of a rodent's tail. If left untreated the appendage can turn gangrenous, and drop off.
Rotgut
An alcohol made from putrescent Oleander wood, and something of an acquired taste. Coincidentally, taste is the first of the five senses to be ruined by Rotgut's consumption.
Scrunt
A word too rude to define. Used to refer to someone.
Vaelian Frogs
The Frogs of Vaelia represent the lake's only indigenous culture, and their knowledge of the lake's currents and winds is greatly prized. Only the most foolhardy of captains would dare attempt to navigate the lake's treacherous waters without a Vaelian Frog among their crew.
